The Delgado tradition is steeped in 4 generations of rich family history. Stemming from the entrepreneurial union of Manuel’s great-uncle Candelario and grandfather Porfirio in 1928, it was passed along to Manuel’s father Candelario, and before long, to Manuel himself. Manuel is proud to carry his family’s unique story and heritage, never failing to remember its significance. His older daughter, Ava has notably begun her own journey in the Delgado tradition, completing her first instrument, a mandolin, in 2018, at the age of 10.
Manuel doesn’t prescribe to the notions and methods of mass-production. Each custom instrument undergoes an intensive process, beginning with the client’s goals and desires. The entire development takes place in the shop, with a minimum of 200 hours needed for each one to be built by hand. The result is a one-of-a-kind product that lasts lifetimes, with a sound that improves the more it’s played. With production of just a few each year, you won’t find a Delgado guitar just anywhere. Yours is waiting.
Manuel’s artistry comes in many forms of stringed instruments. Guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, banjos, and resophonics are just a few of the instruments that can be made in the Delgado shop. Manuel has created several Delgado guitar models that are all handmade as well, making each one unique. Along with custom instruments, we are a dealer for many brands of instruments and accessories, serving to find you the products that best suit your needs. In addition, we offer many repair services. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or are an experienced musician, we can set you up to sound your best.
Some of the clients acquired throughout Delgado history include Theodore Bikel, Burl Ives, Laurindo Almeida, Vicente Gomes, William Clauson, Arlo Guthrie, Hoyt Axton, Jose Feliciano, Charo, Jose Barroso, Luis Florriaga, Virginia Santos, Arturo Valdez, Jose Oribe, The Kingston Trio, The Christy Minstrels, Pepe Romero, Celedonio Romero, Andrès Segovia, Old Crow Medicine Show, Los Lobos, Jackson Brown, and Buddy Guy. Manuel has also restored instruments for the Country Music Hall of Fame and other museums around the country. Although we have serviced several high-profile clients, our doors are open to any and all musicians.
